How to install BBpress with Buddypress?

Hello Buddypress, I am trying to install BBpress alongside my buddypress install to no avail.

I installed buddypress (1.6.1) and then download bbpress (2.1.2) and install, when I click on “activate” in wp-admin all I get is the following:

“The website encountered an error while retrieving http:/domain:8888/wp-admin/plugins.php?activate=true&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s=. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.”

Could anybody give me some help if they’ve encountered this issue before? I’d so much appreciate it.

My end goal is to not have the “group” forums, just normal forums that don’t require group access.

BuddyPress has bbPress so delete the extra plugin. Then go into settings > BuddyPress in the admin. Click forum tab and setup bbPress

    Choose the site wide option

@yoyobestbuy if you want sitewide forums only (aka bbPress plugin) then go to dashboard menu Settings > BuddyPress > Components and uncheck “Discussion Forums” https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

I did choose the site wide option and unchecked “discussion forums” from the buddypress menu settings option. I also followed the instructions on the link @mercime.

I’m going to try that now @modemlooper
