users are complaining they have to drill down into the site to get to the “new post” button. How do I create a permalink for the forum of a group? I’ve tried ….and can’t figure it out?

BTW, I dropped SimplePress and went to you guys cause the users wanted the digest email feature.
    thanks!

Hey thanks but still does not seem to work or I’m communicating my question. When I add a new page to our wordpress site I pasted a link into the html body. The menu for the site now has “forum” but it always redirect me to the wordpress generic forum link not the buddypress group forum.
    Desired link:
    `gwspacesociety.rog/groups/students/forum/#post-new`

    The resulting link:

looks like the group is private – so buddypress will redirect back to the main page (if someone is not a member)

No I’m the admin. So that is not the problem. Maybe I dont understand WP permalinks or BuddyPress permalinks.
    1. In WP to make a menu link, you create a page
    2. In my experience WP autopopulates the permalink
    3. When you preview the site in a new window/tab the menu link is there and it works. end of story.

How do I do the same with a forum in a BuddyPress group, so that users don’t have to drill down into the site? I get complaints from users they cant find the forum I’m trying to setup. So I assume the most straightforward solution is to make a WP menu link directly to the group forum (understanding they wont see it or get to it if they are not already a member of the BuddyPress group).
    Any thoughts appreciated!

We cant get to your group forum because it’s private.

You groups forum link should be

    http://gwspacesociety.org/wordpress/groups/students/forum/

If you can’t get to that link then you have a problem.

    Right, its private.
I have to login as admin, and then go to My Account, My Groups, then I see the link to the Students group, click that I then I can finally click the Forum link. I also can use the WP main menu Groups link, and find the Students group. Our members are lazy, they want to hit the main page, one click and they are in the forum (assuming they are logged in).
I tried the link you provided above and it keeps redirecting me to what I belive is the WP general blog/comment diaglogue. The buddypress install went OK as I can tell. In the WP admin backend I still have the msg:

“BuddyPress is ready. You’ll need to activate a BuddyPress compatible theme to take advantage of all of the features. We’ve bundled a default theme, but you can always install some other compatible themes or upgrade your existing WordPress theme.”

Even though I activated the default BP template several times. Possibly something to do with the issue here?
