i noticed that a birthday of one of my members is december 2008. what can i do so they have to put in their real birthday or maybe prevent sign up for less than 18 years old? thanks.

charge membership with a credit card.

Require members to enter birthday, if they have real friends, let another member “validate” their birthday.

have people uploading avatars of themselves holding up signs for your site. This is pretty low tech, but most people can handle it.

There is a level of animosity which the internet provides, and is often hard to penetrate.

You can also protect yourself, by registering your site with known parental control software packages, such as mcafee. This would probably get your domain, and possibly your server marked as adult so probably not the advised solution.

thanks for that.

im actually looking for something that would automatically calculate birthday on buddypress. if entered birthday is say, 13, the system would say something like, opps, we require at least year 1997.

(by the way, youre site is sooo great.i like the top members. )

Ok, I realize there is a profile type of date.

It stores the date as a unix time stamp, for example my birthday is:

363326400

So all you need to do is this, subtract stored birthday from time(), if less then 18*365*24*60* then birthday is that of a minor.

how and where you do this is up to you.

Great. Thanks. Guess I’ll have to wait when someone of age can help me since I definitely cannot do that. Thanks for mentioning hook though. Now I know the correct google phrase.
