Installing on new site, multiple problems

    Hi!

I am pretty new to this. I have just installed WP 3.3.1 and BP 1.5.4. Fresh installation. Then I inported data from our old site which was like four years old. (The data from wp_users, wp_usermeta, wp_bp_xprofile_data, wp_bp_xprofile_fields, wp_bp_xprofile_groups).

Now I am having sevral problems, all Buddypress related.

    1. New users profiles are empty after registraton.
    2. PM sends to sevral users. If I want to send to one user, buddypress sends it to 2-3 others also.
    3. When users edit and save their profile, the nickname is replaced with userlogin. This problem was fixed if I changed the name of the field back to “Full name”. But I don’t want it like that.

What did I do wrong? I don’t know if these problems was there before I inported data from our old site. I tried searching the forums but I cannot se any solutions to my problem.

  • Why did you not simply upgrade the present installation to latest WP then after upgrade BP, probably safest as incremental version updates rather than jump to 1.5 when it sounds as though you might have been on a pretty old version even a 1.1 stream.

It may be the case that the present new version of BP needs to run it’s DB upgrade script, if it still can, not sure of the consequences if you install and set up 1.5 then import old db tables.

I did that because the old version was hacked to pieces by the previous webmaster. I tested my upgrade-method locally, but when I did it live these problems showed up.

There shouldn’t be need for any database upgrade scripts because the database is new. I just inported som data, I did not replace the tables with the old ones.

OK, now I reverted all the database tables I edited, and the problems remains. There must be something wrong with the installation then.

What is the best thing for me to do? Remove buddypress completely and install it once more?
