This will do photos on your profile. No video. And not in groups I don’t think. But I imagine in time there will be a lot of solutions out there. BP is really new.

Not sure what you mean by a magazine style front page… but there’s a widget to show a list of latest blog entries.
Thanks,
hmmm, so no video…
And I suppose no group photo albums either
I have to decide between BuddyPress and Jomsocial… tough decision
Personally… I’d wait… because Joomla makes me nauseous. But that’s just me.
So Jomsocial has a wall “publisher” like Facebook that allows you to add links, video etc. directly into the activity stream?
Just installed this via the plugin installer in the admin area and I get the following when I navigate to the Album:
PERMISSION DENIED
Not Found / No Access
The page you are looking for either does not exist, or you do not have the permissions to access it.
I used the installer, and also did it by uploading to my server manually. Same result. Permissions are the same as other plugins.
I also tried the beta version with the same result.
Suggestions?
WPMU 2.8.2
BP 1.0.3
bbPress 1.0.1
Yeah Jomsocial is still far superior in terms of navigation and media.
If making a directory with Joomla wasn’t so complicated (like everything else it seems) I’d definitely buy a Jomsocial license.
I’m still hesitating because Jomsocial has great integration with some forums, an area in which BP seems pretty limited
PERMISSION DENIED
Not Found / No Access
@mattlay
this does happen occasionaly, but it has nothing regarding the permissions.
if i remember correctly how i did it,
try copying ‘plugin-template.php’ to your home theme.
@mattlay
After the installation of the plugin, you have to copy the “album” directory to your bp-themes directory to avoid the error.
Extract from readme.txt :
Move the “/wp-content/plugins/bp-album/album/” directory to “/wp-content/bp-themes/bpmember/”
“album” directory should be at the same level as “/wp-content/bpmember/groups” and “/wp-content/bpmember/profile” etc…
Thanks everyone. My problem is that I copied it to to the default theme and not the theme I am using *doh* all is well now.
I was up late trying to implement this myself using jquery, when I stumbled across Mark it up (http://markitup.jaysalvat.com/). You can do some creative coding, implement the jquery and tell it to apply it site wide, and BAM, you and your users have instant image upload, auto bold and italics, among other great features. Just makes buddypress work more like big boys.
You can see my implementation on my site, OfficialManCard.com
