Is there a way to remove the “active” “newest” “popular” tabs?

Is there a way to remove the “active” “newest” “popular” tabs? We only have 8 groups and want them all displayed.
Also, the groups move around and are sometime next to each other… it looks better when there is one per line.. it seems to default to side-by-side (4 rows of 2 groups) and then when you click one of the three tabs it organises itself in a lovely 8 row format. Can this always be displayed in this form and in alphabetical?
