OpenId can be a huge game changer. If users can register easily, then community can grow really fast.

Do a search of the plugin repo… there are lots of them.

There’s an Open ID plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/openid/

And there’s this one that allows users to login with credentials from 16 different social networks:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rpx/

I didn’t knew that wordpress plugins are compatible for buddypress.

If this is the case, why do buddypress has different plugin directory at https://buddypress.org/extend/plugins/ ?

It’s exactly the same – it just pulls plugins from the wp repo tagged with “buddypress”.
