Issues with @mention autocomplete

I’m having a problem with @mentions and autocomplete where the autocompleted username has some HTML in the hover over. I’m using the BuddyBoss theme, but have also verified that the same thing happens with no plugins turned on and the Twenty Fifteen theme.

Has anyone seen this happen or know of a fix? I’m not sure what image the console is talking about (it looks like maybe the user’s gravatar?) and couldn’t find where in the code it was coming from.
