Looking to do a groups-focused site. Questions? Are they any examples?

I’m a WP developer and have I’ve never used BP. I’m thinking about using it for a site whose main focus is Groups. I’d like the home page to come up with a listing of groups, maybe within categories of groups, and go from there. I’d still use all the functionality of BP, but groups has to be the focus.
Is this easy enough to do?
Can anyone point me to a site that is built this way?
