Main Site and BuddyPress Subsite?

I want to setup a BuddyPress site that is locked down (have to register) on a sub-domain of my site, but have a main site that is a regular WordPress blog used as a CMS. I’d like to just use one install of WordPress. Can I do this? If so, how? If not, any plans to make this possible or anyone working on a plugin/hack for it?

Followed instructions from above link. All worked well.

Except

the new bp installation is not drawing in the posts from the other sites.

Any ideas about where to look to get this functionality back would be greatly appreciated.

adding “Groups” page to new bp site seems to have solved it
