Manually Calling “Admin Bar” Elements

    I have been designing a customized navigational bar, but I haven’t completely been able to pick apart the bp-core-adminbar.php file to make the links actually work, I’ve only been able to figure out how to get a link to the user’s main account page. Mainly the only thing I personally would need for what I am designing would be how to call the notifications. Is there a codex doc on this any where that I may have over looked? Thanks a lot.
