Member search

I am creating a website that has a membership of doctors.The client wants the site visitor to be able to search the doctors by various criteria. Now the list of doctors shows up at the bottom of the search page in alphabetical order giving the doctors at the top of the list a clear advantage. Is there a way to hide the members on the search page? Can this be done?
