Missing Forums Directory

I’m using BBpress for forums, 3.5 wordpress and buddypress for the community portions of my site.
I don’t see a forums directory in the components page so I can’t attribute a forum page to bbpress. So ultimately, every time a user accesses my /forum/ root they are redirecting back to that page which dramatically increases loading time. I see all the directories that I have attributed pages to except forums. Can someone help me fix this problem?

I’ve just had the same problem. There’s a few steps I took to fix it, any one of them might have been the magic one, but taken together they solved the problem:

    • Go to Settings > Forum and change the Default User Role to keymaster
    • Tick Auto role
    • Click Save Changes
    • Set Default User Role back to Participant
    • Click Save Changes
    • If you have a user role editing plugin, go to it, or if not, install one
    • Edit the Administrator role and make sure that Manage forums is applied (there might be others, so make sure that anything that sounds forum-related is also checked).

And that shoud (ha ha!) solve the problem.

    Good luck!

Thanks Peter for the suggestion, none of those methods worked. I really need to fix this problem, I can’t use the /forum root for my forums index. The load time is too much. Is there another alternative?

    – WP 3.5 aboe or 3.5.1? BP version?
    – Did you upgrade from BP 1.6.5 or is this a new BP 1.7.1 installation? That is, do you have the old BP Group Forums installed or is your issue with the bbPress plugin sitewide or group forums?
    – If sitewide forums, did you create a new Page for your forums and add the forum index shortcode? If you did, you should use the same Page slug, e.g. discussions, in the Settings > Forums – Forum Archive slug (which should also be the same, e.g. discussions)?

The 3rd point you prescribed is what my settings are right now and what is causing the “redirecting” load problem. I am unable to see an options to attribute my Forums Page with the Buddypress Forums. In the Settings>Buddypress>Pages.

I have sitewide forums and group forums on and everything is updated to its’ latest.

I think the problem may be the fact that I’m not super admin. I deleted the original “admin” account as a security precaution and udpated my current user as administrator.

I was thinking of the old groups forums re BP Pages, disregard this, my bad.

Based on your original post above, you have /forum/ not /forums/ as your Archive Slugs->Forums base. What’s in your Settings > Forums > Single Slugs -> ___? If it’s the default /forum/ then there could be a conflict.

Right I have /forum/ on single slugs.
    and /forums/ on archive slugs.
I also have a /forums page that doesn’t connect when I try example.com/forums, it goes straight to the forum index. I can tell because my /forums page has a sidebar enabled and /forums does not.
What do I need to do?

What theme are you using? What plugins do you have installed? If you deactivate BuddyPress, does /forums/ go to the correct page like this one (if you added the shortcode/s) http://testbp.org/discussion/ ?
