My profiles activity feed default

  • @hkcharlie

    Participant

At the moment when I click to my profile, my default activity feed is my own feed.

As much as I like to read about myself, I rather like reading about others, either my friends or stuff going on in my groups.
Can I change the default activity feed and if so how ?

  • BuddyPress Extended Settings by @modemlooper can change the default. This is an excellent plugin with many useful settings. Get it here:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-extended-settings/
BP FriendPress can filter activity dependent on friendships so basically it has the ability to show only yours and your friends activity like facebooks wall. Just make sure to read the readme.txt. Get it here:

Extended settings doesn’t quite do what I’d like it to do (set the default tab on the activity tab of my profile page)

    and……………

buddypress-friendpress gave me a whiteout with all the latest versions.

I was so close and then yet so far : (

I am the author of BP FriendPress and it works on all my test servers from WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.5.1 to the current versions. If its not working for you it would be the first I have encountered. Being that I am a former army ranger I want this topic resolved in a prompt manner! Having a bug is unacceptable and I will do my best to resolve it immediately!

Seeing as you obviously know how to use a gun, I have run a bunch of checks on my test install.

The reason for my “white out” is because of the theme I was using “The Walled Garden”
It would appear that the plugin is now working as stated with the default theme.

(I have just realised, this is also your theme : ).

However, it still doesn’t give me what I need most, the option to include streams from groups that my users are members of, which includes activity from users that they may yet be friends with.

Also, on my website I “had” implemented (and liked) the “followers” plugin that requires you to turn “friends” off.

@shawn38 I stand corrected. Please would you be able to help me in some way to achieve what I need from your plugin?

Also, could you tell me, does your plugin re-direct to the set activity stream when a user navigates to their profile via the BP links within the site, or just when they login?

PS: I loved your theme, no I am stuck.

@hkcharlie The Walled Garden is just a child theme I used privately and I decided to let others use it because it was a good starting point for a private community and its based on the BP Default 100%. If you look at some of the code in BP FriendPress you will see some of the same functions that was in that child theme. You will want to comment out the same code because it will cause issues by re-declaring. The area in both the child theme and plugin is well commented so it should be easy for you to locate the part you need to comment out.

@shawn38 so I’m just using the default theme now.
    WP 3.4.2 BP 1.6.1.
When I try and login it gives a whiteout.

(Also, I’d like to know would be easy to add group activity to the options? Even if you could point me in the right direction.)

@modemlooper yours is a really a great plugin, but it’s just shy of what I need.
I would like to be able to set the default activity tabs for a users activity page.
So that when they click on their own username and they are are directed to their own activity page, the activity shown by default could be selected from Personal, Mentions, Friends, Favorites, Gallery, Groups.
Would you be able to help me in this direction or would you consider it for a new version ?
    (thought I’d ask)

Any ideas where @shawn38 is these days? The excellent FriendPress plugin seems to have vanished from the repositories…
