Need to change a style setting

In my first-ever experience with creating a community and a registration page, I note that the Edit Profile page has three choices of links: View, Edit, and Change Avatar. However, the links are formatted as white text on a white background…not terribly friendly.
The style.css page in Edit Themes indicates that all styles are defined in functions.php. I’ve never tried to deal with that before, but bravely and heroically, I soldier on. Once there, however, I encounter style settings with embedded variables, like this:
color:#<?php header_textcolor(); ?>;
Okay, I surrender. How do I format hyperlinks on the Profile pages to be something other than white??
