Newbie questions re bbpress and buddy press

I am trying to deploy social networking and forum on existing genesis platform child theme. No problems there yet. My question is more general, t wit…

I cannot find a clear answer as to whether a site needs both bbpress AND buddy press to support forums. Some places I see that after certain rev buddy press no longer supports forums and so need bbpress to be installed.

Can buddypress alone support both networking and messaging, etc as well as support forum activity?

If you want networking and messaging and forums – you need both BP and bbPress.
