No Profile Fileds after installation

Hi,

I’m new to buddypress. I’ve installed WordPress MU 2.8.1 myself and added buddypress 1.0.3 as a plugin and tried the WordPress MU + buddypress-package by buddypress.de several times (which includes the same components), but after the installation it’s alaways the same problem, there aren’t any profile fields.

When I try to edit my profile it says “That group does not exist” and looks like this:

In the backend it says under “Profile Fields Setup”, that I have no groups and when I try to add one “There was an error saving the group. Please try again”

Is something wrong with my installation or do I not get how to do it?

I’d appreciate some help, thanks a lot.

Edit: I just saw there are more things not working: I can’t send messages or add freinds. Even though I can add new blogs they do not appear in the blog-list of a user. That is strange behavior. If BuddyPress installed properly, there should be at least one profile field called “Full Name” located in a field group called “Basic”.

Can you verify that the BuddyPress xprofile tables exist in your database’s backend? Have you checked the PHP and MySQL error logs to see if there is any useful information?

There should be 19 total BuddyPress tables in your MySQL DB–this does not include any WPMU tables. Out of those 19, four of them are for profile data. Each of the profile tables has the word “xprofile” in the table name.

Now I’ve installed everything again on another account (same provider but other server) and there everything works fine. So it seems to be a question of which provider you have.

And you are right, there aren’t any buddypress tables at all…I wonder why.

As your issue seems to be with your provider, and not with BuddyPress itself, I’m going to set this thread to resolved.

By the way, if you are using a BuddyPress installing script and not using WPMU’s autoinstaller or simply doing a manual install yourself, you can run into a lot of issues.
