Not a spammer but marked as a spammer

    Hi

I have 2 admin accounts, but although I kept seeing one in pink, with the implication it has been marked as spammer, I had not taken this seriously as I last used it years ago.
Today, because I need to use it, I reset the password and tried to log in but the user was blocked by Wordfence. I took measures to be allowed to log in and still with correct login, I could not, several times.
So using the main account, I looked at this other admin account’s profile only to see “This user has been marked as a spammer. Only site admins can view this profile.”
I even do not know how this user was marked so, probably mistakenly.

I saw another user in this forum was pointed to changing the status & under Extended Profile, where there’s “UserX has been marked as a spammer. All BuddyPress data associated with the user has been removed”, and status set to “Spammer”, when you try to set it to “active”, you get => “User could not be removed as spammer.” !!!!

I tried to get another user with the intention to at least change role to admin, but also mysteriously found this status, which cannot be reverted!!! No single idea how this status was arrived at. And even if it is, how come the admin cannot not remove one from the spammer status?

I’m using latest version of all plugins & WP.

I would very much appreciate your help.

I need to add, Wordfence is set to immediately block non-existent usernames and this particular user is actually there. Checked the spelling several times, correct password! So could it be Wordfence takes a cue from this Buddypress Spammer status business?
Anyway, the question is how does the admin remove another admin or other user from spammer status?

BuddyPress does not mark users as spammers, it must be some other plugin that’s doing that

    Hi

    Cannot delete Spammer

Thank you for the quick response.
    The question is which plugin?
I tried deactivating a couple starting with Aksimet and when I reached bbforum & buddypress & deactivated both: the pink background of the “Spammer” user disappeared, as well as the link “Extended”. They both do not reappear with bbforum activated. (See screenshot)
That made me assume it’s Buddypress that’s responsible for this pink background and the Extended link.
Moreover it’s under “Extended” edit of User on “wp-admin/users.php”, that one gets the status shown and where one can change from Spammer to Active, which will not work.

So just wondering … Or may be I’m just overlooking something obvious?

    Regards

Leave BuddyPress Active, deactivate all other plugins, see that these will not be there, then re-active the plugins one by one till you find the one that is marking the users as spammers.

    Hi

So I did just that, deactivating all 28, except one for https, installed recently but as you see, no luck. Quite strange.
Can uninstalled & deleted plugins still have an effect? I forget it’s name, but the other security plugin I can think of & given up over a year ago, when author gave it up, it was however removed, then.

    Very strange.

Would that be Wanguard? That certainly used to flag users as spammers. Not sure how it could do that if it is no longer running.

    Yes, it was that.

I’m still running it, but it’s not added that “status” field to the extended profile. Have you tried deleting that profile field?

    Hi

I have never actually used the feature of adding custom or editing profile fields. Under Users => Profile Fields, there’s nothing, I guess meaning none have been added manually.
On the Edit User => Extended Profile tab, the only options there are Update Profile from pre-selected “Spammer” to “Active”, which does not work, View Profile and Edit Profile Photo.

So I do not see where I could delete that field.

If it’s in the extended profile then it’s been added by something, I’d be looking for a plugin that did that if it wern’t you.
