Nothing on Groups, Activity or Members pages

    @olihaslam

    Hi

    I have a new install of BuddyPress. But tere’s nothing showing on these pages at all and I don’t know why. For example, on the Groups page it just says “Groups” and underneath it says “Edit this page”. There’s no way to create a new group at all. Same goes for the Activity and Members pages.

    If I go to WP Reading Settings (Settings > Reading) and choose that the front page displays a static page and select the Groups page (for example) I can then see the usual content for the Groups page (I can create a group etc.) but still nothing appears on the other BP pages.

    BuddyPress appears to be installed fine otherwise. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  • On the dashboard, left hand side you should the BuddyPress option, and under that is ‘pages’. You need to assign a page to each of the designated BuddyPress features in order for anything to show when visiting those pages. You might also want to ensure that the different options you want with your site are active under BuddyPress > Components. Hope that helps.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply and clear advice.

    I just checked and the pages are already correctly assigned to the BuddyPress features. And all the options are already active in BuddyPress > Components but still nothing shows on those pages.

    I tried making a new Groups page and assigning the groups feature to the new page but still nothing shows.

    Do you (or anybody else) have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

    Just a thought….

    Does WP/BP need to be installed in the root directory? It has been installed in a subdirectory i.e.
    mydomain.ac.uk/wordpress/
    The groups page is located at:
    mydomain.ac.uk/wordpress/index.php/groups/

    I’m doing this for my employer (a university) and I didn’t install WP/BP myself, I’ve just been given the job of configuring BP and populating with content.

    Thanks

    @olihaslam

    I figured it out :)

    WP/BP is installed on IIS (I’ve only ever dealt with Apache before) so to fix it I changed the permalink settings to a custom structure (see Settings > Permalinks).

    I changed the custom structure from:
    /index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

    to:
    /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

    thus removing the index.php bit and all works fine now.

    Very happy!
