Nouveau: Add custom template

The Nouveau template pack is very interesting.
It would be helpful to have some documentation for common tasks, such as adding a custom nav item and template to an existing directory.
Adding a custom link is quite simple: gist
But how should a custom template be called on the ‘custom’ link?
For the legacy template pack, it’s done via thebp_setup_theme_compathook.
What is the equivalent process for Nouveau ?
