Plugin Request: Quick Joining of certain groups on signup

Hi guys,
I want to request the following plugin:
Allow users to choose from certain groups (admin controlled) on signup. For example on my site I will have people from different countries, and I want to put them in a group corresponding to their homecountry. So on the signup page I would like to have a list/dropdown to let them select their country/group.
After registration the user is a part of that group, and the process is much more natural then a group invite on signup (which DJPaul his Welcome pack allows).
I imagine this could be used for so many things, and it would make it easier for communties to organise their members. For example you can add checkboxes:
Receive admin updates (General News group)
Stay up to date about subject x (Group where you post info about a certain subject)
I’m willing to pay a (small) price for this, because I need it for more then 1 project. If anyone else would like to see this, please feel free to chip in/add suggestions
