points as currency.

    Hey guys.

I am currently building a website which needs to utilise the points functionality of the Buddypress Achievements plugin (or cubepoints) and turn the points into a currency based system.

Users will place job offers or services in exchange for points (the amount of which can be defined by the “selling” user and accepted/declined by the “purchasing” user).

Points will be awarded upon paid registration of the website, successful transactions and can be purchased as an added bolt on if balance is running low.

I have a couple of ideas about where to begin with this. I was thinking modifying the friend request code, so that job offers can be proposed, accepted and declined, with the amount of points to transact being set by the proposer. The consumer would then have that amount of points deducted when the request is accepted, plus the friend notification could be used to notify the community that a transaction has taken place.

    Would this be possible?

  • Achievements wasn’t designed with being a virtual currency in mind, so maybe use Cubepoints.

i have looked at cubepoints and like it a lot more than achievements. cubepoints is fit for purpose.

I reckon instead of using the previous idea of friendship hacks, use the “donate” functionality, but chop and change it so that it will fit what i need it to do.
