Post Email Subscription

Hi there,
I’m currently working on a WordPress Site that uses BuddyPress & Group Email Subscription.
We want Users to be notified by email when a post is created (They are currently grouped by category).
Currently the post gets added to the activity stream. Users get email digests about forum posts, “What’s New” updates, but not posts in relevant categories.
Could anyone point me in the right direction for the code that adds a post to the activity stream, so I can see if I need to add some more logic about categories for the Group Email Subscription plugin?
