Problem with buddypress 1.6.1 and private messages and profiles

i have a strange problem with a site running buddypress 1.6.1
the problem is that i can view a profile of some users but a profile for an editor i cannot view, i get a page not found.
When an editor is logged in he cant send private messages although the private messages is turned on in settings, but i as an admin can send pm to other users as long as the user is not admin or editor
