profile field – date selector show year only

    I’m using wp 4.8.2 with current BP. Testing on my local machine, using 2017 template.
    Am attempting to add the date selector with custom display set to ‘Y’ only, and relative dates — unfortunatly the drop downs for D and M are insisting on displaying.
    With that setup should they not appear, or do I need to hide them and set defaults?
