I have a request that would make it easier for visitors to find members (or groups, blogs, forums, etc).

The “search anything” box in the members directory is great, but not necessarily intuitive. It would be great to have additional drop-down menus to search by select profile fields.

For example, I have a profile field for what State a member is in. It would be great to be able to filter members by state.

These extra boxes could be tied to profile fields and therefore completely customizable.

I run a real estate community and one of the most common complaints i hear is that it’s not intuitive to search for members by location.

Thanks @r-a-y I’ll play with it.

Question about the instructions…it says to replace some code in members.php…

The only members.php file I have in under groups-single and it doesn’t contain “BP_Core_Members_Template”

Am I missing something?

I haven’t played with this plugin in awhile so something might have changed since BP 1.1.3.

I’ll get back to this thread later tonight.

No worries…I’ve been digging through old threads and it looks like the plugin needs an update to work properly.

@r-a-y Not sure if you’ll know this r-a-y but does this plugin allow me to search by multiple fields? e.g. Can I search for ‘females’ with ‘blonde’ hair etc?

I am starting work on a site where models will have profiles set up on attributes such as hair colour, eye colour, height etc and really need clients to be able to search for members matching more than one field.

I don’t think this was ever resolved. It’s a big shame. Profile Field Filtering would make finding people within a community SO much easier…and being found is a big reason why many people would even want to join our communities.

@gregfielding Totally agree there! To be able to find members by searching across multiple profile fields is really a feature that I’m sure most would love on BP. Does anyone have anything in the works?

Check it out mate, it’s exactly what we need!

Just need a way of hiding the form through ajax as the search form can be BIG when you have a lot of profile fields to search from.
You know like the ‘new topic’ form is hidden in the forums directory etc?

We just need this hidden in the members directory and it’s perfect. Lets you search with one or more fields selected.

Good news: the option to hide/show the search form is available in BP Profile Search 2.2.
