You will need to edit your header.php file in your theme/child theme.

yeah but how would I make a small horizontal widget in there so that when we go to widgets in wordpress I would have this option to put something in the widget in the header?

BuddyPress is no different from WordPress in this regard. You just need to add a sidebar to your header.php. Google “how to add sidebar to wordpress”

what I want is a search bar placement just like the one on facebook. like how they got their search bar right next to the site title thats what I am looking for but unfortunately it seems nothing works. is there any ideas?

As the mightymo mentioned above, you can create a sidebar/widget area in the header of your theme. Read how http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/05/26/the-complete-guide-to-creating-widgets-in-wordpress-28
