Removing the new “dashboard” tab from admin bar in Buddypress latest version…
-
Hello:
Can you please help out! I need to remove the “dashboard” tab from the new buddypress admin bar as I do not want my users to access the backend.
Is there anyway to remove that tab and just go back to how it was before? Please, please, please?
Thanks so much;
Vida

Puzzled by this what are you running and in what configuration, your users – if they are simply subscribers – shouldn’t be able to do much anyway. Is this dashboard link coming off the back of my ticket and code example as I had written it with user capabilities in mind it was only meant to show for users elevated to super admin.
@hnla I didn’t think to ask if it was clear that the new dashboard link only shows up for super admins everywhere and for blog owners only if they’re in their blog site
@mercime Just slightly concerned as I remember that when I was roughing up my approach to the lack of a blog/dashboard link for users or that a user elevated actually didn’t get the same main dashboard link as the original site admin it proved problematical getting things correct for all types of install if I indeed did, haven’t had a moment to look at the actual committed patch to see how it does perform for all install types.
@hnia: Yes. You are absolutely right. The dashboard tab does not show up for regular subscribers. Sorry, I kept getting it because I was signed in as super admin. Problem solved
The only remaining issue is that when I start letting my users sign up for their site/blog, they will have access to wordpress dashboard. I really would like to offer them a more user friendly interface like buddypress’s front end; color wise, etc.. But that’s a whole other issue. For now, I am happy to have this solved
Thanks so much hnia and everyone else
VidaThis is something that is expressed from time to time i.e “More friendly interface” but it’s one of those things that slightly puzzles me again this is WP and the method of running it is the dashboard and that shouldn’t be a barrier for people really. There are however a few front end posting plugins which essentially drag the dashboard create post page/function to the frontend of a site that may make things a little simpler for users, but not sure on user blogs whether it’s easy or possible to then further abstract or hide the dashboard.
