Rename profile menu items and add location search to BuddyPress Search

Hello, I have a client that wants me to work on his buddypress site, but I’m having a few issues. First, I can’t seem to rename the menu items on member profiles. I’ve been following the instructions on this page, but it doesn’t seeem to have any effect. On top of that, the site is using the latest version (ver. 2.8.2), but I can’t actually find the navigation api on the plugin description.
The second issue is that I want to add a location search to the search bar on the home page. The site has the BP Profile Search plugin (ver. 4.7.3), but there doesn’t seem to be a way to add this feature. Are there options to add it to the search bar without extensive work?
