[Resolved] Buddypress with WPMU

    Hello everyone,

    1. I setup WordPress (3.1) and created a network successfully.
    2. I setup two sites (the main site and a testing site) using sub directories.
    3. For each site I set permalinks to Day and Name.
    4. I installed BuddyPress by using the “Add New” plugin feature.
    5. Did a “Network Activate” on the BuddyPress plugin.
    6. Set the main site and the testing site to use the BuddyPress theme (1.2.7)

For the main site BuddyPress works fine but when I try to access some BuddyPress related pages for my test sites, ex:

    domain/testing/activity
    domain/testing/members

etc etc, I get a “Page Not Found – The page you were looking for was not found.”

Anyone have some ideas on what could be the problem? I tried switching permalinks but did not help.

Also, I noticed on a default WordPress installation (not WPMU) that when BuddyPress is installed there will be an option, “Appearance -> BP Compatibility”. In WPMU I do not see that option.

Any help is appreciated, if you know of a good guide on getting BuddyPress and WPMU working then please let me know. I could not find one that worked for me after two hours.

BuddyPress default blog when you activate it is in main site http://yoursite.com.

Therefore, if you installed WP 3.1 in domain root i.e. http://yoursite.com/, created a network, created a subsite http://yoursite.com/testing, and you want to test BP in this subsite, you need to follow this instruction https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/

Hello mercime, thanks for the reply.

I thought that with each site you created would have it’s own little “BuddyPress” area and pages, but if that is not how it is supposed to be then that is good, I’ll just keep it the way it is. I just thought I was doing something wrong.

    Thank you very much.

You’re welcome. At this time, BuddyPress can only be activated once in either the main site or a secondary blog of a WP Multisite installation.

Hi Folks – this thread seems to have answered a similar question. I had BP installed and then just activated WPMU. I noticed BP only works on the main site and this thread appears to confirm that you can only have one instance of BP correct?

Are there any plans to expand that to work with all the sites made with WPMU or is that not something that would work?

@Stigmartyr That was three months ago. Since then, there’s http://wpmututorials.com/news/new-features/multiple-buddypress-social-networks/
