Just can’t seem to get this feature to work at all with BuddyPress.
Had it running for a few hours – now it is “not found” again even using the widget links.
If I ask BuddyPress to look for an exisiting installation the bbconfig file doesn’t exist. I have looked through EVERY folder and yes it does not exist. I guess there really is no need for a forum on a recipe sharing website… although the favorite button might be nice. Still haven’t figured that one out either.

I am just nobody here. But this is how I did it.

Before installing buddypress i created a page named “group forums” and when installing buddypress forums, assigned it as its sole page. Later seperately installed bbpress. No harm at all
