[Resolved] Problems Getting BuddyPress Running

  • We’re just starting out with BuddyPress. It’s all new with current versions: WordPress 3.3.1, bbPress 2.0.2, BuddyPress 1.5.4. Using site-wide forums only, group-forums page attached to discussions in BuddyPress but not used and talk used as the forums slug in bbPress.

    No custom themes at this point or code changes. This is a fresh install. It’s hosted at Media Temple.

    So I’ve clearly missed something. Attempting to go to the /search page redirects to the home page. All pages are properly showing up in the BuddyPress Pages configuration.

    So I’m not sure if I missed some setup or where to look for a problem. I thought I covered everything but it appears not.

    Advice on troubleshooting?

  • site.com/search/ is a bit of an oddity. You’ll note testbp.org/search/ redirects, too, so it’s not a specific problem with your site.

    /search/ is basically a search/redirect handler. Based on what parameters are passed in the GET request, it will construct an appropriate search URL for the component that you’re searching for. It’s not a google.com-style search page (although that might be nice to do in the future).

    For example, searching testbp.org for “paul” with “members” selected in the dropdown box posts the form to /search/, which then redirects to http://testbp.org/members/?s=paul — which is the appropriate search slug for the members component.

    Got it. Thanks for the clarification.

    Hi guys,

    Sorry for posting here but i’m new and havent found how to post a new question.

    I’d like to COMPLETELY delete buddypress… To reinstall it and recover in such a way the original configuration proposed.

    The problem is everytime i deactivate and delete buddypress plugins and themes, check it is done in the repertory and delete wp_bp tables… my old undesired buddypress is still there when i install it again.

    I’ve also taken a look into my wp_options tables (i have a couple of them since i installed a network) but none of them contains such files as these:
    * bp-db-version (for BuddyPress 1.5)
    * _bp_db_version (as of BuddyPress 1.6)
    * bp-active-components
    * bp-blogs-first-install
    * bp-deactivated-components
    * bp-disable-account-deletion
    * bp-disable-avatar-uploads
    * bp-disable-blogforum-coments
    * bp-disable-profile-sync
    * bp-pages
    * bp-xprofile-base-group-name
    * bp-xprofile-fullname-field-name

    I’ve been here (https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/deleting-buddypress/) and it seems i did everything ok but it still doesnt work…

    Could you please give me a hand?
