the register link works but the link to log in doesn’t it just keeps giving a 404 page not found error

The last time I tested https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory a year ago and installed BP, it just didn’t work. Since you just created your site, why not start from scratch and install WordPress in domain root?
i’ve done so many posts and image uploads, its going to be a nightmare to re do it, so would prefer to be able to fix current install if possible. Seems strange that there wouldn’t be a simple fix for it…… I could stay up all night and do it I suppose but not ideal.

If you don’t need to install BuddyPress and make sure it works for all WP and BP upgrades including BP plugins, then you can stay in that setup.
If you do want BP in your setup, backup database and server files and save to hard drive then reverse the process you went through “giving WP it’s own directory”, you can then reinstall WP at domain root.
think thats what I’m going to have to do….. booo! thanks for your help… So do you have a recommended plugin or anything to backup content so i could just transfer it into the new installation?? Sorry I’m a bit of a newbie to doing all this stuff…..

From general observation, the best time frame to post there is around 9 am – 3 pm PST. You can bump your post there after 24 hours, just in case things get busy.
