RSS feed issue

I am getting this error when I click on the icon for rss. This is both sitewide activity and on the blog rss.

XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity

Location: http://mysitename/exclusive/activity/feed/

Line Number 8, Column 1:<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?><rss version=”2.0″

I have search this topic and even tried the plugin fix-rss (link:http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/fix-rss-feed/)

I am currently running bp ver 1.1.3 and wordpress 2.8.5.1

Does anyone know how to fix this?

This is an older posting but since it comes up #1 in Google and anyone searches for it:

There are spaces before the XML tag. You need to make sure those empty lines are not present.

They are caused by plugins, code, whatever that has extra characters before or after the php tags.
