Scalability

    Hi All,

I know that WPMU is very scalable (as evidenced by WordPress.com). Is BuddyPress equally scalable? What if I do create the next Facebook? How will I expand the infrastructure, and will I run into any brick walls?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Well check out this quote: “Very exciting news that Friendster, a popular social networking service with over 90 million global members, has relaunched their blog offering and selected WordPress MU. These member blogs, which are used by millions of Friendster members” So I think BP is a selections of plugins on the wordpress mu.

Therefore if wpmu expands so does BP.

There are some people that already work on extending WPMU that are going to work on extending BP as well for scalability. You won’t be the only one that has trouble, so solutions will be presented. Keep in mind, this hasn’t even been released past beta yet, so no solutions will likely be created until the release.

What i’m concerned about is that every user can create his own blog. I’ll miss the possibility to limit the users storage or traffic. Would be great if the BuddyPress Hoster could offer a basic free membership (wich is limited somehow) and if anyone special needs more the hoster could charge him for that. I’m thinking of the concept of http://en.wordpress.com/products/

Is there anything like this in the pipeline?

There are already 2 products from a premium.wpmudev.org that do this, but they are not free.
