Setting Blog IDs back to 1

    @nickbwatson

    I’ve been creating a few blogs (just for testing).

    And I’ve noticed that every time I create a blog, then delete it, the next blog I create will have the NEXT ID number, it doesn’t reset to 1 if I only have 1 blog.

    Anyway to reset it? Or where can i find the file that the ID is created?

    Thanks

  • You can’t; this is a result of the blog IDs being set by an auto-increment primary key integer in the MySQL database. You could do something like export the database, drop the table (wp_sites, or something), create the table again and re-import your data.

    However I am not sure of the consequence on WordPress of this being done so not recommended unless you have time to check all the tables and update references where needed.

    Ah, okay.

    Well I’ll have a look and see what I can do, if it’s an issue then it’s not a problem. I was just annoyed with the numbers.

    numbers will do nothing on your site, people are not ranking their position on a site based on the id of their blog… google either…

    The blog ID numbers are only used internally.

    I know they’re just internal, I was just curious.

    If you really really wanted to, look in wp_signups. They don’t get cleaned out on delete (partly to prevent deleted spammers from signing up again with the same info).
