sign up goes fine, but no confirmation email arrives

Hi,
I’m trying to make some user’s registration testing: the registration goes fine and the system replies to check the email to confirm and activate the account.
I tried 3 times with 3 different users and mail-account, but no email have been received.
By the admin side I see these users in pending status and I see also the day when the email to confirm was sent.
I could activate the users from my panel, but the problem is that when users sign up for a new account, it says is went succesfully but no email arrive to them.
What should I check to solve this problem?

Have your test users checked the spam folder in their email because sometimes it goes there. You may also want to check your servers error logs as well.

Hi,
yes, checking the spam folders was the first thing I did.
I don’t know how to check my servers error logs. Could you drive me a bit in the right direction?

Have you tried deactivating all plugins other than buddypress and activating a known theme that works well with BP like twenty fourteen? Sometimes plugins and themes can cause issues with the activation email. If that resolves the issue then you will know it was a faulty plugin or theme.
