signon/register error message

When someone tries to register using a userid or password with spaces, they get an error message saying that a userid can’t have capital letters. Can this error message be updated to either check to see if it is a cap letter or a spaces or not enough characters issue and respond accordingly? Or can all of these be added into the general error message?
