simple wp membership

I created two sites. the first one was a test to configure buddy press and simple wp membership. The first site worked well, and there is no access to activity and members pages ect. However, the real site still allows non members access to activity and members pages. I have tried to compare all the settings, I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled plugins, and I know that the protection settings on the membership plugin are correct.
Has anyone else recently had this issue? any resolution ideas?
