Site Wide Activity without friends

I’m trying to just have a sitewide activity stream for everyone without friends. I disabled friends but now it only gives the options for personal/favorites/mentions. How do I make it work?

I’m finding the whole idea of having friends in the first place is redundant on any smaller social site because Facebook can do just about anything with groups and forcing everyone to friend every member of your site when they sign up to gain access to all the activity is not practical.

Activity is wide open even without friends out of the box.

Example can be found on testbp.org:
    http://testbp.org/activity

To disable the friends component, login to the WP admin dashboard and navigate to “BuddyPress > Components”, uncheck “Friend Connections” and save.

Then navigate to the sitewide activity stream, which by default is located at:
    hxxp://example.com/activity.

If this is not what you had in mind, please elaborate!

So to make this accessible to the members I need to add that link then to the buddybar. Seems like a good idea to have it automatically added to replace “Friends activity” when the friends component is disabled.

Also looking at the buddybar php I don’t see the actual links for things under the activity sub menu. How can get rid of that sub menu all together and just have a link for activity in the “my account” menu.
