Something very strange happened…CSS styles missing.

Hello, I am relatively new to WordPress-Buddypress, HTML and CSS and I would like your help to figure out what happened.

Almost a year ago I had set up a website on WordPress and I had installed Buddypress, and using a child theme and CSS I made all the customizations I wanted. After I finished and for some personal reasons I did not opened the website for some months (it was password locked) and now I’m coming to see that half of the styles I applied are gone!

The first thing I thought was that it was my mistake – that these CSS changes were made in the core files and not in the stylesheet of the child theme. But I don’t think that this is the case. Later I thought that since then it has been a long time and many updates and may now the browsers handle some elements differently (!)…but, I don’t think so! Now I think that some how and without even update my Buddypress/Wordpress installation some of the IDs changed. Is this possible?

For example, In the User Groups page there was an ID “#groups-sort-by” for the “Order By” drop down menu. This menu lost its style and its current ID is “groups-order-by”. Another example, in the Activity Steams page there is a “What’s new…” text area field that used to have ID “#whats-new-post-in” and now it has “whats-new”. Is this correct or am I just a VERY confused Newbie???:)

I will fix them again but I’m afraid if this happens again then there is no meaning in having a child theme or to keep backups since they can’t help if the IDs changed. Thanks for any advice you can provide!
