Special characters changing: e.g. ä >> u00e4

We’re facing an annoying issue on our BP site.

BuddyPress names with special characters like ä é è ü î ø etc are continuously changing to something like u00e4. So the member names look weird.

We’ve been trying so many things already, but we cannot seem to find the solution.

Hi @xrossgg,

which language do you use on your site and which server type (apache, nginx, iis,..)? Also can you tell exactly what you mean by BP names ?

A priori your issue has nothing to do with BuddyPress, but with the way gettext is excuted or how device are handled (charset…) in your language.
