Stopping anonymous group creation

    @xprt007

    Hi

    I have a whole host of different security plugins, including Aksimet (free), bad behavior, IP blacklist cloud & Wordfence security and these at least manage to prevent anonymous topic & unmoderated posts.

    Somehow some bastards, for lack of a better word always manage to create a group with long spam descriptions every 1 – 2 weeks. I do not remember Statcounter registering these visits, including the latest, which makes me think the posts are probably or mostly by bots.
    The problem these created groups are not moderated making worry some very bad stuff could easily get posted.

    How can one effectively prevent this?

    Thank you in advance.

    @ubernaut

    in buddypress settings under Groups Settings and the heading Group Creation un-check the box that says “Enable group creation for all users”

    Hi

    Thank you for the response.

    Would that then mean only the admin can create groups?

    I had thought may be it is possible to have only REGISTERED folks be able to create groups.

    Is there anything like getting new groups approved before getting published like topics/comments?

    Regards

    As far as i am aware (though am open to correction) the “Create a Group” button only appears if you are logged in – i.e. registered.

    yeah you definitely need to be a user to create a group.

    Hi, I guess you are right.
    The problem I have actually been having, though is finding a NEW group created every now & then, with a long spam description & then by NONE registered creatures, which I have to delete, who according to Statcounter have not even been on the site, because there is no record of them!

    That is why I am looking for a way to stop this type of group creation, possibly by some bot.
    I hope this is possible to allow only registered folks to create groups. I thought approval would help to catch bot/other non-serious creations, before their stuff gets public.

    Regards

    🙂
