This is really bizarre mate but the latest forum topics widget is behaving really strangely. It is perfect on EVERY page of my site except for the ‘Activity Page’ and the group activity or ‘Home Page’ of a group where it fails to display a couple of group names.

It will give th etitle of the post and then say ‘posted in – ‘ and the area is left blank.

browse the site and you’ll see it works fine everywhere else. It must be something to do with the activity stream or something but I can’t work it out.
Have you got any ideas?

I have fixed the problem by accident on the main activity page by placing the widget further down the sidebar. Not sure why that has anything to do with it but it fixed it on the main activity page.

The widget is still having a problem in the group’s activity in the home tab of a group.

Now I understand the widget is dynamic and will only post topics from the group you are viewing but should it still say ‘posted in -‘ and then just blank or is that a bug?
I understand that they are posted in the group you are viewing but it would still be nice for it to say it.

@nuprn1 Sorry for all these updates but I keep finding things out.

I hadn’t fixed it on the main activity unfortunately as I thought.
The widget displays correctly if you have the ‘ @admin mentions’ or ‘@logged in user mentions’ tab selected in the main activity during a refresh. If the ‘All members’, “My Groups’ or ‘My Friends’ tab is selected on a refresh then it doesn’t work correctly.

Again this problem happens in the ‘Home’ tab of any group and no where else.
The strangest thing is that it doesn’t leave blank every group name in the widget, just a couple.
Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it!

@nuprn1 Another update. It seems like it only affects topics made in the last couple of days. The group name won’t show when on an activity page.

I don’t think I have changed anything at all though except maybe update to WP 3.0.1 but that shouldn’t affect BP should it?
Will try and test some more but at a loose end with this one!

looks like all the topic_object_* functions are not returning values if under the group scope (drawback of the functionality in bp core code – though i don’t know the exact reason at the moment). I can take a closer look in a few days and may have to create a new function to check which area and output the proper group name/links

So can you replicate this problem in WP 3.0.1?
Is it likely to be changes to core code and not something I might have done my mistake? If you could look into it that would be great!

Can anyone else replicate this too?

i can’t replicate it on my local install with bp1.2.5.2/wp3.0.1 but use my group forum extras plugin instead of a standalone widget

@nuprn1 Hmm… I just don’t know why it only happens on topics made after the update. Topics made before seem to be fine. It’s all a bit strange, but I really need this widget to bring visitors attention to the community aspect of the site.

Any help you can give me would be so greatly appreciated. I’ll gladly send you some money for a few beers if we can fix it!

@nuprn1 sorry to keep bugging you Rich! I’ve dug around a bit but still having issues with the topic_object_* functions not retirning values on activity pages. Have you had any joy on this one yet? Cheers mate!
