Did you manually approve the comment? I’ve encountered a bug where BuddyPress says I’ve published a post and/or when really I’ve only approved one from another author.
I’d file a ticket on trac.buddypress.org as this is something I’ve also run into.
Yes, I manually approved the comment. I wonder if the same thing happens if I don’t screen blog comments.
Probably not. From what I’ve found it’s based on whoever makes a comment or post public, if that’s the right word to use. If a comment is automatically published without moderation the author should be listed correctly.

I haven’t seen any mention of this. I post a blog and someone comments on it. On the main BuddyPress page, though, it looks as though I commented on my own post. It will have, say, Jimmy’s comment, but it will look as if I was the one who made the comment.
Any one else have this trouble?
