Sub groups

Is there a way to have groups within groups. Lets say you have a California group, can you have other sub-groups listed like LA, San Fran, San Diego etc? Thanks!

No way out of the box and I’m not aware of any plugins that do this, as it’s non-trivial at this stage.

hello, i was wondering exactly the same thing !

I think it can be very usefull and in fact it can help to make buddy press more clear.

Or maybe the ability to create category for put group inside !

Cause if your buddypress community is very big and lots of people create group we will have a terrible mix of all and we can be lost…

example: a category for group called music

and inside some groups like: rock, pop, alternative, jazz etc…

general forum for category and sub forums for groups inside can be very usefull too

I don’t now really how to do this but if someone think it can be done let me now !

    thanks in advance

I don’t think it would be too difficult…. just use group API on group creation screen to add an extra field (SubGroupOf), store in meta data, then put a filter on group-single to list all groups with matching SubGroupOf… also put a filter on group lists around site to filter out all groups that are a sub group…

    Just throwing this out there….

Anyone up for it? Unfortunately, my programming skills are sub par. Shall I start a new post in the forums?

Schwooba and Neobabs, the idea has been proposed on BuddyDev.com

    http://buddydev.com/forums/topic/group-category-plugin

There is something in the works, so if you’re interested let Brajesh (the developer) know in that topic!

ok, thanks for that. But i read he plan to make it free and at this time if i register for free in buddydev.com i cannot post a message in this topic…

activation key is always invalid, do i need to pay for post a reply in this topic ? I hope no…

Cause i will not ! In any case i support buddydev.com if they plan to make it free

You should be able to post I think… strange.. you can always send Brajesh a message on BP directly:

Maybe you could make the forum as a subgroup.
