Hello guys? I don’t know if this is too much to ask but I want to suggest friends by IP. Like users will see friends’ suggestions based on the location via IP. A user in Poland will see friendship suggestion based on other users in Poland too.

Simple way would be to setup a mandatory x-profile field using a text-area with country or city. Have a template that queries members by that field for the members page. Whatever the members puts into that field is what the members page or search would return with. Make it a mandatory filed on registration and it should work that way.

So basically if a member typed in Poland, and saved his profile, everytime he went to see the members list, only people who typed in Poland would show up. Search can work that way too.

Thanks, I had that thought but I want to suggest members, not people looking for members. I will make a widget somewhere in user’s wall where people of the same location will appear.

Also using an x-profile? People can easily claim to be in another location thereby fooling the site. We (developers) are known to be smarter than that these days unless some users are smart enough to change/ use another IP.

    Still open for brighter ideas.

Geomywp offers some addon plugin which can help to add a location field as xprofile field, it can be used to create a custom widget for nearby friends.
