Trouble Accessing the Social Functions of BuddyPress (techno-klutz alert: on)

    Howdy y’all!

I’m really bad at using technology, so sometimes I wonder why I’m pursuing the things that I am. Alas and alack it seems to be the world we live in. That said, I decided to extend my wordpress blog to the buddypress sphere to have a social networking site.

I used simple scripts through my host service to install both wordpress (upgraded to 3.0.1) and buddypress (1.2.6). I have not been able to utilize or link to any forums although I have set it up from dashboard. I have all the social functions enabled also.

My host informs that when I installed wordpress it was not wordpress MU. Could this be the issue? Should I download wordpress MU and then upload it to my host? If I do I can easily import my existing wordpress site?

Thanks for any and all advice.
    Jon

No, that is not the issue. BP works in single WP.
But if you want to give your members their own blogs, then you have to go multisite, i.e. create a network.

Thank you for your links mercime. I’ve spent most of the morning working my way through them. Should I uninstall buddypress and start over?

Thanks again, mercime. Things are going better. I still don’t know how to establish activity updates, though.
