Turning off and adding social layers

  • Hello,
I am shortly going to be building a site with WP and with (probably) BuddyPress installed, but would like to know if the following is possible.

The site is going to be an event-listing site. I realise I will need an events plugin too. I would like users to be able to:

1.) save events they see in the listings to a list of ‘possible’ events that they may attend.
2.) Write reviews of events if they have the right user permissions level.
3.) Add events to the listings.

Of these, 1. is most important, and 2. and 3. are less important. I would like all other features turned off: no ‘news feed’, no ‘friends’, no groups, nothing. Do I need BuddyPress for this, or can I do something with just WordPress, and if I do install BP, is it possible to cut down all the extra features.

In other words, the site will not be a social network, but a static site with a couple of social features. Having a page that users, when logged in, can save potential events to is crucial.

Please advise! Thank you so much.

    Toby
