Unable to add user to group

    Hello All,

    I am running BP 1.8

    In the Admin Panel I go to Groups/Edit/Add New Members. I type in a username and click to select the suggestion. The name shows up under the field with an x next to it.

    Then I click the save changes button in the upper right hand corner.

    A message states that the “The group has been updated successfully” but the member is not added to the group.

    Just a long shot… do you use an e-mail address as username?

    Have a look at my question https://buddypress.org/support/topic/problem-with-email-adress-as-username/ from some months ago. Unfortunately nobody replied.
    Workaround is to to create usernames without @ (we always create users ourselves, completely private groups, members need to be invited).
    Didn’t check recently if the problem has been resolved or not.

    Installed a plugin for users to login with their e-mail address or their username (which they typically forget) Plugin is WP Email Login: *Allows you to log into WordPress using your email address instead of a(nother) username.* Can be found at https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-email-login/

    Don’t know if you might have a similar issue.

    I can’t replicate your issue. I am using WP 3.6, BP 1.8.1, bbPress 2.4, and a child theme of bp-default and it works for me. You may want to give more detail about your installation so the volunteers can try to isolate what may be causing this to fail on your install.

    Not too much of a long shot. Yes, I am using email addresses as the username. The users are created with a plugin called BuddyPress Import. I have it create usernames based on the email address.

    Your post at https://buddypress.org/support/topic/problem-with-email-adress-as-username/ appears to be the same problem I am having.

    Since I can’t change the username this could be quite a hassle unless it can be fixed…


    @bphelp     can you create a user with an email address for the username and see if the issue can be duplicated on your install?

    Glad the issue could be replicated.

    @elangley    : thanks for submitting a trac ticket. I’m definitely interested in having this issue fixed. And thx as well for the advice on the BuddyPress Import plugin, will try it.

    @elangley: just had a look at the status of this issue: https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2425
    It seems it has been closed there, as it was submitted on the bbPress, rather than Buddypess Trac.

    I submitted this very issue now to the Buddypress Trac: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5187 (rather than ask you to do this, I just copied your original submission)
